How do you attach '55 arm rest to the front door side panel?

I bought a custom interior door panel & arm rest for a ‚55. There are slits on the cardboard side panel & metal triangle shaped tabs on the metal arm rest. I am assuming the metal triangle tabs should connect through the slit in the cardboard? Half of the slits in the cardboard don‘t like up with the metal tabs on the arm rest. help.

Tracie, 1955 bel air 2 door hardtop front armrests bases must be used on 1955 bel air 2 door hardtop interior door panels as there are 14 notches in the armrest bases as well as the matching 14 notches on the interior door panels.

1955 bel air 2 door sedan front armrests bases must be used on 1955 bel air 2 door sedan interior door panels as there are 13 notches in the armrest bases as well as the matching 13 notches on the interior door panels.

My point is 1955 bel air 2 door hardtop and 1955 bel air 2 door sedan front armrest bases are not interchangeable.
